From someone who can only speak the bare minimum of Spanish (let alone Quechua), shipping souvenirs back to Canada went pretty well. Yes, international shipping is an involved process including ID checks and fingerprinting for the paperwork but the gentleman in the kiosk to the left of the main counter was very helpful with packaging and filling out the appropriate forms for a small fee. The Serpost employee at the counter was also very patient and processed our package as quickly as is humanly possible given the amount of security required. It cost us about $100US to ship a 4kg box back to Canada which took about 4 weeks to arrive via Canada Post. For my purposes, it was less hassle and cheaper than flying with another piece of luggage on the return flight but I wasn't in a hurry.
